    Frequently asked questions

Everyone is welcome no matter their fitness level or skill level but we understand that it can be difficult to take the leap to join a new club or sport so please see some of our most common questions. Please contact Seán if you have more questions.

You don’t need any equipment for the first few classes and when you are ready to commit to kickboxing, Seán can advise you on gloves and shin guards. If you already own gear, please do bring it with you.

For the 1-1 sessions, you will need gloves as minimum.

Getting into fitness is a great thing to do and we want to make it accessible to everyone, so we have a few options for you to choose from:

    1. Our beginners class is roughly 15 minutes cardio at the beginning of class after that we focus mainly on skill. How hard you push yourself here is entirely up to you. The most important thing in class is you keep moving and we’ll tailor it to your fitness level.
    2. We have 1-1 sessions which will be based on your own skills and goals and no need to ‘keep up’ up with the rest of the class. This is a great basis to get the basics right before joining the rest any of the classes.
    3. We have an online kickboxing course that you can do from the comfort of your own home and at your own pace. meaning you can build your fitness at home before joining the classes of getting a pad session. https://phoenixperformance.thinkific.com/courses/beginnerskickboxing

Some students have shared with us the incredible sense of safety they feel because they are stronger and more confident. But let’s shift our focus away from self-defense as the sole purpose of kickboxing. Instead, we want you to join this course to enhance your skills, improve your fitness, and embark on a personal journey of growth. It’s crucial to remember that self-defense situations are highly stressful and intense. While kickboxing classes are enjoyable and provide a solid foundation, they do not fully replicate the environment in which you might need to use self-defense techniques. We want you to develop your skills and gain confidence, knowing that self-defense is an incidental benefit of what you will learn.

We run kids, teenager, beginner and advanced kickboxing classes every Tuesday and Thursday. Go to our class timetable to see more.

Kickboxing is a contact sport and we train for the sport, so there will be some contact. Contact will be glove on glove or glove on pad or on a rare occasion there will be sparring in class but this is subject to everyone’s approval.

All adults who have their children attending classes or 1-1 sessions are welcome to stay in the gym. We have a waiting room with a couch and a glass window looking out onto the mats.
